Market Outside The Box 2016

The Brief

The annual Dubai Shopping Festival's Market Outside The Box returned to Burj Park for its third year in 2016, again providing a varied retail offering for thousands of visitors during the festival season.

The 10-day outdoor pop-up fashion and lifestyle event showcased more than 50 non-mass produced brands and labels, as well as food and beverage vendors, over the period of two weekends. This year added non-retail features such as interactive shows, music and a pop-up cinema showcasing creative documentaries.

Flow was tasked with providing full site, catering and show power to a venue that covered an area of approx 12,500 SQM. Due to the pure volume of footfall expected at the event, cable routes presented a challenge as most of the activity was taking place in the centre of Burj Park. The solution needed to be expansive, effective and aesthetically pleasing.

The Solution

Due to the sensitivity and prestige of the site FLOW delivered all equipment between 00:01 AM and 06:00 AM to ensure heavy vehicles were clear from the site and surrounding area before the rush hour traffic of the busy area came to life.

A total of 1.4 MVA of power generators were provided in various locations around the site to reduce the mains cable runs and eliminate any potential hazards for the thousands of expected visitors. FLOW supplied in excess of 500 cable ramps to ensure smaller cables were protected and covered, offering a safe environment for the public. These cables, distributed from tens of distribution boards, powered all aspects of the event.
