Fashion Forward Fall Winter 2016

The Brief

Fashion Forward (FFWD) is an annual fashion and lifestyle event where regional and global brands, and the international fashion community, unite to support leading Middle East talent. The event is the definitive fashion platform for Dubai and the wider Middle East.

For FFWD's seventh outing in January 2016, the event organiser, Brag, continued its track-record of evolving the event by staging the four-day showcase in an outdoor venue for the first time.

As part of Brag's strategy to attract larger crowds to the event, FFWD 2016 was switched to its new home at d3, Dubai's new creative hub. With the transition to an outdoor environment yielding new challenges in technical logistics, FLOW was invited to deliver complete temporary air conditioning and show power.

With the leading lights of the region's fashion industry in attendance, a significant element of the brief was ensuring that all power and cooling solutions merged seamlessly into the event's overall aesthetics.

The Solution

FLOW devised a fully-integrated solution that provided approximately 350T of cooling encompassing solution design, equipment rental, mobilisation as well as skilled technicians to oversee the installation and servicing of all equipment across more than 2,750m2 of temporary structures and 1.6MVA of power across the full show.

Vitally, FLOW utilised 2MVA of generators for the distribution of air conditioning (AC) and show power. With power supply covering AV and lighting, invenue bars, external food trucks and other catering requirements, the cooling was delivered by split unit solutions painted black to merge seamlessly into the wider event locale.

The Verdict

"As event suppliers, we understand there are multiple variables and factors that come into play when staging outdoor events – the weather among them. Although rain is not uncommon in Dubai in March, an unexpected deluge on the event's opening day required extra due diligence to ensure all distribution and cables were kept from being submerged or surrounded by water."

"Having completed the installation for FFWD 2016's cooling and power needs in only four days, some two days prior to the event, the FLOW team was on-site for the duration of the event to ensure none of the DBs tripped and ultimately, there was no interruptions and no power drop during the event."
